While viewing the latest uploads on Stickernation, some stickers by an artist named Analog leapt out at me. It turns out Analog is StickerNation member marcushiro. I thought it would be cool to talk to Analog about his stickers, his inspirations, and the Sticker/Street Art scene in the Philippines. So here's the Q&A with Analog and I hope you enjoy.

Please introduce yourself and tell us a bit about you.
Analog is Marcushiro. I'm a man from Manila, Philippines. Part graphic designer, part illustrator, part independent filmmaker and pastiche-maker extra ordinary. I just recently overcame my fear of a clean white sheet of paper. Oh-well.

What are you working on right now?
Just finished an audio cd packaging for a local hip-hop dj/producer friend of mine, dj Arbie Won. It's entitled "united freestyles v2.0". Somewhat a support to the hip-hop movement here in the P.I. plus some children's book illustration under my real name. Doing beats and sampling for an underground groovy-jolog band "bagetsafonik" and conceptualizing a visual art exhibit of sorts for next year.

Who/what are the characters in your stickers?
Those are old school b-boy analog robots. Nothing fancy or techy in it. I'm taking em robot designs back to basics with a modern feel. Sorta symbolic statement that old things reincarnate no matter how far technology takes us.

Who/what are your biggest influences, why, and can we have some links to them?
Wow! I can't even trace my influences but lemme try to name those who were big influence when I started illustrating... Sam Keith for his works for the Maxx, Dave McKean, Bill Watterson of Calvin & Hobbes, Ted McKeever, Keith Giffen, Joe Sorren, Ashley Wood, Sabrina Ward Harrison and the Latter, Futura, Mr. Jago, Pete Fowler & Kid Acne.

Other art inspirations are in my site.

What's the process you use to make your stickers?
I just buy sheets of sticker paper and just doodle 'em with permanent markers. I'm happy that every sticker is different from the other plus it adds artistic value to it. It's overwhelming and exciting when I had made a legion of it and was itching to stick 'em. I just hope I won't dry out of characters for me to continiously make em, if that happens then I guess it's time to do monsters instead.:)

What is the Street Art/Sticker scene in the Philippines like?
Sorry to rant, but in reality, the philippines is so commercialized. though there's really no strict laws regarding stickering here, it's saddenning that people only do stickers and stickering for commercial purposes. it just pisses me off when
people here spend so much money for things they don't put much effort to. The concept is so lame plus the design sucks. Even local taggers do the same shit. it's just delinquent vandalism for me. I mean, why not put substance, concept and proper execution while you're at it. So much waste of time, money and effort. I don't see the logic in that. And then here I am doing the exact opposite. it's not much or new but I guess it's my own little way of rebellion, or
in some way, spark up a revolution-evolution of street cred artists here.

In time, I believe, we'll get there.

On a lighter note there are some that I consider legit street art. Kitchy signages on electrical posts, wheat pasting from dubious organizations, mad scientist propaganda scribbles and well, more plain mad propaganda scribbles.

Want to give any shoutouts to other Street Artists that you know of in your
area?

Yeyo. Props to Fandango's, Tubero's, Pulitiko's, Manila's finest "Mr. Win-Nice", mga alyansang pilipino, Salengga da P-Noy Scientist, and MMDA artist (tama na pls-pls!)

Got any last words before we sign off?
Big ups to the entire crew and fellow contributors of StickerNation for continously inspiring me and feeding me my regulated dietary sticker allowances. Keep 'em coming yo.

Innovate+Elevate+Educate

Peace.
